Alice Springs

[EN] Finally we arrived in Alice Springs! The road in the desert seemed endless, but we finally made it! We only had one day to explore around Alice, which is not much considered how many interesting spots there are in the MacDonnells ranges, but we really squeezed the best out of it. Eva and myself decided to go for the western side of the mountain range, as suggested by Federico, a friend of Nadia whom we met for dinner after our arrival. The day after we rented a car and in the morning we explored the Standley Chasm, a very deep gully in the western range trough which we could barely see the sunlight, and then climbed to the peak that dominates the area. It was a memorable scramble: Eva and myself struggled a bit to get on the top, but we had great fun. Some transitions were a bit scary, but Eva is more reckless (and much fitter) than I am, so it was all good and we were rewarded with a spectacular view from the top. In the afternoon we went to the beautiful Ormiston Gorge, a spectacular canyon situated at the entry of a plain enclosed between the mountains. That was a loong walk, but again... absolutely spectacular. The day after Eva and myself split our ways, she's going back to Melbourne, while I'm flying to Darwin to continue my trip. It was very sad having to say farewell after the time we shared on the road, but on the other hand I'm really glad that we could share this part of my trip: farewell Eva, thanks for the good time we had together... and see you around the Globe!
[IT] Finalmente siamo arrivati in Alice Springs! La strada nel deserto sembrava non finire mai, ma finalmente ce l'abbiamo fatta! Avevamo solo un giorno per esplorare i dintorni di Alice, che non e' molto considerato quanti posti interessanti ci sono nella catena dei MacDonnells, ma ne abbbiamo davvero spremuto il massimo. Eva ed io abbiamo scelto i MacDonnells occidentali, come suggeritoci da Federico, un amico di Nadia che abbiamo incontrato per cena dopo il nostro arrivo. Il giorno seguente abbiamo noleggiato una macchina e in mattianata abbiamo esplorato lo Standley Chasm, un crepaccio molto profondo attraverso il quale riuscivamo a malapena a vedere la luce del sole, e poi abbiamo scalato il picco che domina l'area. E' stata un'arrampicata memorabile: Eva ed io abbiamo faticato un po' per giungere in cima, ma e' stato molto divertente. Alcune transizioni erano un po' spaventose, ma Eva e' piu' spericolata (e molto piu' in forma) di me, quindi tutto e' andato bene, e siamo stati ricompensati con una vista spettacolare dalla cima. Nel pomeriggio abbiamo visitato l'Ormiston Gorge, uno spettacolare canyon situato all'entrata di un pianoro racchiuso tra le montagne. Una lunga camminata, ma di nuovo... assolutamente spettacolare. Il giorno seguente le nostre strade si sono separate: lei torna a Melbourne, mentre io volo a Darwin per continure il mio giringiro. E' stato molto triste dover dire addio dopo il viaggio che abbiamo condiviso, ma d'altro canto sono davvero felice che abbiamo condiviso questa parte del mio viaggio: addio Eva, grazie per questo tempo che abbiamo speso insieme... e ci si vede in giro per il mondo!
